Recent ActivityInstructor: Fifth Grade
Here's whats going on in Fifth Grade...
Reading Relationships and Point of View. The students have been learning how point of view and perspective impact readings and text of all kinds. They are currently reading novels that are focused on these topics. We are also teaching theme and finding the moral of the story through fables. The novels should be done next week and then they will begin their class projects.
Math- Division (Chapter 4). Beginning soon is working with decimals. Now is a great time to reinforce money concepts at home.
Science- Seasons and Moon Phases. Next week- Space and Stars (Unit D- Chapters 10 and 11)
Social Studies- Colonies. We will begin studying the Revolutionary War after Christmas.
Spelling- Unit 7- and 100 No Excuse Words. Prefixes/suffixes/compound words. Keep practicing there, their, they're.

Class Announcements LOW SCHOOL SUPPLIESChristmas Cookie and Gift ExchangeWe will be having a cookie exchange on Thursday, December 22 in class. If your child wishes to participate (optional), please send them with 2 dozen of the same cookies and an empty container. They will exchange cookies with each other and bring home a variety of cookies. We will be munching on extras if there are any. I will be providing milk and holiday music.
We will also be doing a gift exchange for those students who want to participate. They will bring a WRAPPED gift ($5-$7) and on the tag they should write To: A Boy From: A Boy OR To: A Girl From: A Girl I have a fun activity planned when exchanging. They will not know who they are giving it to or getting it from- that’s the fun part! Again, this is optional if you and your child want to participate. They will still get to eat cookies and celebrate with us. Maternity LeaveAs you all hopefully know, I am scheduled to have my son January 12th. Tentatively, I am planning on coming back for a couple days after Christmas break, but that could change last minute. I am still waiting to find out about my substitute, but I will let the students know when I do. I will be back around Spring Break to finish the rest of the year with this awesome group of kids. I couldn't ask for a better class to come back to after being gone for 3 months. :) Thank you for all of your support.
AR goal DUEFriday, Jan 13, 2012 is when they need to be at 100% of their AR goal, as it is the end of the quarter. Please make sure they are on track by checking HomeConnect on your home computer if available.
